We thought it would be nice to catch up with members of Emerald Cruises HQ to chat about their role within the company and to share their experiences on-board our much-loved Star-Ships.
This month we’re talking to Digital Marketing Executive, Luke Hunter. We’ll ask him all about his day-to-day role, what you can look forward to on your trip, and why he loves working here so much.
Hi Luke, thanks for talking with us. Could you tell us about your role at Emerald Cruises? How long have you worked for the company, and what does your average day look like?
I’ve worked here, as a Digital Marketing Executive, for four months now. The role offers a lot of variety, but predominantly I work on emails, social media and the website. Most outbound digital messages will come through me at some point.
What is your favourite thing about working for Emerald Cruises?
I absolutely love the product. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time travelling and recognise just how important it is to each individual - I take pride in knowing my work brings people closer to a plethora of spectacular places.
Has the company changed at all since you started?
The pace at which Emerald Cruises continues to grow is really impressive. During the short amount of time I’ve been here, we’ve introduced three new ships, a fleet of coaches and itineraries in Southeast Asia.
You’ve recently returned from an Emerald Cruises river cruise. What were your first impressions of the ship, and your favourite memories of the trip?
I was on-board the Emerald Star between Amsterdam and Cologne, sailing a beautiful segment of the Rhine. The ship was mesmerising and so impeccably clean. I tried a phenomenal variety of food that far exceeded anything I’d ever tried before!
Which is your favourite Emerald Cruises Star-Ship? And what features do you think guests can most look forward to during their time on board?
Drawing on my recent experiences, the Emerald Star was truly magnificent. Upon arriving in Cologne, I was quick to make use of the on-board complimentary bicycles and explore the city as a local. I also spent a lot of time in the indoor heated pool as we sailed south. I would love to experience our brand-new ship, Emerald Radiance, commissioned to sail Portugal’s Douro, with its Vitality Pool on the Sun Deck.
What one piece of advice would you give to those taking a river cruise for the first time?
River cruising is an incredibly social way to travel, so you can look forward to making friends from all over the world. You and your fellow guests will quickly become a little family.
Of all the excursions and experiences available with Emerald Cruises, which interests and excites you the most?
I’m fascinated by Portugal and extremely excited to visit in June. Emerald Radiance has recently begun embarking on our Secrets of the Douro itinerary which carves a perfect route through the country and into Spain – I’m sure the wine is spectacular as well…
If you could travel to one dream location, where would it be?
Vietnam is next on my list. Southeast Asia is a stunning part of the world and one I’m keen to explore further. Halong Bay particularly entices me.
We’d like to thank Luke for taking part in this Q&A, and hope you’ve enjoyed our behind-the-scenes view of life at Emerald Cruises HQ.
